We Already Have the Solutions
The science of the climate crisis is settled.
The bad news: its effects get worse every year.
The good news: it can be fixed! We already have the technology in-hand today to eliminate the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions and transition to clean energy.
In fact, renewables are already replacing fossil fuels:
- In recent years, almost all of new power generation across the US and the world is solar, wind, and batteries
- More clean energy on the grid is lowering costs and boosting resilience
- Rapidly falling battery costs change the game on intermittent solar and wind, revolutionizing how we generate and use electricity
Clean renewable energy isn’t a compromise. Moving away from fossil fuels sacrifices nothing. In fact, a clean energy future is less expensive, builds new economic opportunities, and improves health at every level.
But the Gas Industry Blocks Progress
Georgia Power is a legal monopoly that provides electricity to most Georgia residents and businesses. They are owned by Southern Company, a publicly traded gas and power company that operates across the Southeast U.S.
Under the protection of the legacy Public Service Commission, state legislature, and Governors, Georgia Power has successfully suppressed any threat to its profit, which is billions of dollars every year.
Georgia politicians have shown a remarkable lack of political will. For decades, they have traded donations and dark money funding to maintain the status quo: the fossil fuel industry and Georgia Power grow obscene profits while residential customers see power bills climb and climb and climb.
How Do We Build Green Power?
Outside Georgia, many cities, states and nations are transforming toward clean energy.
What separates leaders from laggards? Policy!
If we want to stop cooking the planet and start the age of repair, there’s nothing more impactful than your vote.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) is the most important election Georgia Power doesn’t want you to know about. The five-member PSC regulates Georgia Power, determines power rates, and decides what type of power plants we build.
The current Republican-led Georgia PSC has approved multiple rate hikes in recent years and is now allowing a massive gas expansion to feed dirty data centers. Getting power bills under control and transitioning to clean and renewable energy requires reform. While Georgia elected two reformers in 2025, they are in the minority. We can change that in 2026 by re-electing Peter Hubbard and winning the all-important third seat for Shelia Edwards!
Across the rest of the state, we need to vote OUT those that fail to treat climate like the emergency that it is – and vote IN climate champions. The state legislature and governor can give us the policies we need to build green power in Georgia, lowering power bills, creating new jobs, and holding utilities, data centers, and other industries in check.
Make no mistake: your vote matters! This is the most significant first step you can take to declare: “yes, I give a damn!”

IGAD will fully launch in August. We’ll add voting information, videos to watch and share, and a petition to send to our elected leaders. Georgia Power and others who profit from fossil fuels will spend big bucks to spread disinformation as the election gets closer. We will work to combat that misinformation.
And we’ll be counting on you to help spread the word that if enough people show up to vote, we can put the public interest before corporate profits.
